“The splendour of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not rob the little violet of it’s scent nor the daisy of its simple charm. If every tiny flower wanted to be a rose, spring would lose its loveliness.” ~ Thérèse de Lisieux
As a huge fan of Thérèse de Lisieux and her incredible story, there are so many words she wrote that touch me on a deep level. But none quite like this.
I read this quote when I’m feeling insignificant. (And it usually brings tears to my eyes).
You know the roses and the lilies, right?
They’re the ones who are doing what you’re doing, but doing it waaaay better.
They’re the ones that you can’t help but look at and think ‘Wow…how can I even compete with that?’.
They’re the ones who have the stunning lifestyle shots, the expensive websites, the fancy video setups.
The ones who say all the right things, have all the right clients, and live the life you wish you were living.
It’s hard to be a violet or a daisy in the shadow of a rose or lily.
But here’s the thing: sometimes, the splendour of the rose and whiteness of the lily are somewhat…intimidating.
Sometimes, they’re too much. Too elaborate. Too…showy.
Sometimes, what we need is the simple charm of the daisy, or a little whiff of violet, to move us in a way a rose or a lily never could.
I have no intention of ever being a rose or lily. I find greater significance in the simple things – making a difference without the drama, or indulging my ego in stats and status.
If you know in your heart you are a rose or a lily, then be a rose or a lily.
But if you know in your heart you’re a violet, be a violet.
If you know if your heart you’re a daisy, be a daisy.
Don’t lose your loveliness by wanting to be someone or something you’re not.
The world needs the violets and daisies now more than ever, and you are more significant than you could ever know.
